Facts on Hunger

• More than 80% of Colorado families went hungry in 2001
• Ten percent of Colorado children ages 18 and younger live in poverty
• 34 out of 100 children attending Colorado public schools have a family income low enough to receive free or low-cost breakfasts and lunches
• In 2000, only slightly more than half of all people eligible for food stamps nationwide received them
• More than 150,000 children in Colorado qualified for free or reduced fee school lunch last year
• More than half of households requesting assistance from a food pantry include at least one employed adult
• 33 million people in America are faced with food insecurity
